Boss wasn’t one to be screwed with. He practically ran the whole joint.. Most ponies here never really talked to him unless obeying an order, me, however, I was different. When I spoke to him I always spoke to him straight in the eye, not fearing anything. Not sure what he thinks of it though, because he never shows emotion. And I mean NEVER. That’s really weird.
A blast of wind ruffled my mane, I looked back, and there he was. He was gray griffon with slicked black feathers on the top of his head, briefcase and lawyer suit. His seemingly- soulless eyes scanned the room. “Ahhh, Maya? Would you mind getting Miss Ssparkle here foor mee?” He questioned me with a monotone voice.
I led my jade eyes onto his blue-green ones, “Yes sir, I will get her here now.” I spun around on my hooves and headed into the other room, where Twilight was over checking the formulas and information for our project.
“Twi, Boss wants you..” I muttered.
Her tail twitched, and she turned around and trotted through the door without a word. I followed with hesitation.
“Oh good, now that you two are front and center, you obviously know well, what our plan is today.” His gray, feathered wings ruffling ever so slightly.
Twilight nodded, she began to use her magic powers to levitate the plans and formulas. They were surrounded with a light purple glow, as was her horn. Boss seemed impression, a hint of satisfaction glinted in his eyes. “Good Miss. Sparklee..”
She smiled at him, I wonder how she can, I know she’s afraid of him. Everyone is.
Boss opened his briefcase, and carefully pulled out a orange stone, it was glowing slightly. He set it on the table, “You know what to do Miss Sparkle.. Maya…” and with that final statement, he closed his briefcase and left the room; His dark presence going with him. I sighed, and looked at the stone once more, it looked- out of this world. “Twi..?” I started.
“Not now Maya, we need to get this onto the cart, Freeman just made it here and we need to instruct him on what to do. Now.. grab the stone and secure it to the cart.”
I rolled my eyes, Twilight was a Unicorn, she could easily levitate it but noo, a Pegasus such as me must carry who knows how heavy rock down a couple of flights of stairs down. Yeah, sounds real legit. Without argument, I hoisted the stone onto my back, it was… surprisingly light. Comforting warmth was coming from it as well, it felt nice. Black Mesa might have lots of nice technology, but it keeps its temperature pretty cold. But I can’t waste time; I must get down there and prepare the cart. I opened up a door leading to a large staircase. With a gulp I cautiously made my way downward.
After what seemed like hours of walking, I made it to the room where the cart was kept. Walking up to it, I heard Twilight’s voice booming over the intercom, “Dr. Freeman, the cart should be coming up in a few moments.”
Silently cursing at myself for being so slow, I gently lifted the stone onto the rock, and pressed the button. Stretching my wings out- I began to fly up the staircase quickly. Once I reached the upper door the room began to shake. “Something is wrong!” I heard Twi yell, panic rising in her voice as the room shook more violently. She ran into the room I was in, “Quick Maya, Shut if off!”
With no hesitation I flipped the Power Switch to off.
It refused to turn off.
